We would like to extend our congratulations to York Region’s Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional (ICI) Water Use Consultation and Capacity Buyback Incentive Program, which recently won a water efficiency award from the OWWA’s Water Efficiency Committee (WEC). York Region’s Award-Winning Water Conservation Program

York Region’s ICI program provides a no-cost detailed water conservation assessment to ICI businesses located within York Region. Businesses are also eligible for a buyback incentive based on implemented water conservation measures identified in the water conservation assessment. Enviro-Stewards had the pleasure of working with York Region’s program from 2012 to 2018, where we conducted the onsite water conservation assessments, identified and quantified water efficiency measures, and verified implemented measures with York’s team.

Some of the highlights of York’s ICI program include:

  • High participation rate
  • Integration of co-benefits (energy, climate adaptation, pollution prevention, and embedded water savings)
  • Average 36% water savings identified per facility
  • Average payback of 1.5 years
