Treatability Studies and Product Research

Treatability testing and product research are often advisable for difficult to treat compounds and/or innovative treatment technologies prior to full-scale implementation.

Enviro-Stewards staff have air, water, wastewater, soil and hazardous waste treatability experience at bench-scale, pilot-scale, and full-scale. Head to head pilot-scale studies are frequently used to evaluate competing processes, develop full-scale design criteria, and to generate representative residual byproducts in order to produce a reliable process design and life cycle cost estimate.

Enviro-Stewards staff also have experience assisting in the research, development, and marketing of innovative treatment technologies and byproduct recovery facilities. For example, Enviro-Stewards staff have assisted in developing:

• a process to recover lignosulphonate byproducts (binding agents and dispersants) from pulp and paper mill wastewater;
  
• greenhouse plant growth enhancement (and greenhouse gas emission reduction) through reuse of carbon dioxide from a commercial alcohol plant;
  
• a recycling process that recovers oil, carbon black, steel, and electricity from scrap tires;
  a continuous zinc refining process;
  
• a magnesium recovery process; and
  
• an economical process to simultaneously treat impacted soil, groundwater and soil vapours.
