New Drinking Water Regulations

In response to the recent E. Coli tragedy in Walkerton, Ontario, the Ontario Ministry of the Environment (MOE) is presently drafting and promulgating new drinking water regulations.

Drinking Water Upgrades for Small Water Works

The Drinking Water Systems Regulation 170/03 specifies treatment, monitoring and training requirements for water treatment systems in Ontario.

Among other things, these regulations specify/require:

Enviro-Stewards is experienced with the unique challenges associated with implementing reliable and economically sustainable small drinking water systems under Ontario’s new Drinking Water Regulation and Water Standards.  We have assisted summer camps, rural schools, campground, industries, and small communities to comply with the new regulatory requirements.

Enviro-Stewards staff can provide assistance with:

  1. Design of appropriate treatment facilities and standby facilities;
  2. Completion of Engineer's Reports in accordance with the MOE's Terms of reference for Engineer's Reports for Water Works, August 2000;
  3. Collection and Analysis of samples and/or design of continuous online monitoring facilities and alarms; and preparation of specified reports.
  4. Preparation of specified reports.
Drinking Water Course Registration

During the 2nd quarter of 2004, Enviro-Stewards will be offering one day preparatory courses for summer camp and campground operators (who are required to write an examination) to receive an "Operation of Small Drinking Water Systems" certificate. Courses are scheduled to be offered in:

   • Temagami
   • Kawarthas
   • Muskoka/BurksFalls
   • Region of Waterloo
   • Lake Erie.
